CEC Kargil Attends Valedictory ceremony of North Zone All India Inter-University Kabaddi Tournament 2025
Kargil, October 27/ VOL News Desk/ The valedictory ceremony of the North Zone All India Inter-University Kabaddi Tournament (Women’s Category) 2025 concluded with a sense of pride at the Khree Sultan Cho Stadium, Kargil. The Hon’ble Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohammad Jaffer Akhoon, graced the occasion as Chief Guest.
The tournament witnessed participation from 28 universities across North India, marking a historic milestone for Kargil as the host of this prestigious national sporting event. The ceremony commenced with the National Anthem, followed by the traditional khatak presentation, symbolizing Ladakh’s rich culture of hospitality and respect.
In his address, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon congratulated the winners—Lovely Professional University, the Gold Medalists—and extended his appreciation to all participating teams for their remarkable sportsmanship and discipline. He lauded the University of Ladakh, the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), and the organizing team led by Vice Chancellor Professor Saket Kushwaha, along with Dr. Mehboob Ali and Dr. Jigmet Dechen, for their exemplary efforts in successfully hosting the event.

The CEC expressed immense pride in Kargil’s achievement of hosting such a mega sports event, describing it as a proud moment for the people of Ladakh especiallykargildistrict. He assured that LAHDC Kargil remains committed to strengthening the district’s sports infrastructure and promoting athletic and youth-oriented activities.
He further announced that once the Ladakh Sports Council becomes fully functional, special attention will be given to providing financial assistance, sponsorships, and better platforms for talented athletes across Ladakh—particularly from Kargil—to excel at higher levels.
Dr. Naresh Kumar, Director of Sports, Chaudhary Ranbir Singh University, Jind, and AIU Observer, commended the flawless organization of the tournament and expressed gratitude to the people of Kargil for their warmth, hospitality, and cooperation. He also praised the University of Ladakh for setting a new benchmark in successfully hosting large-scale sporting events in a high-altitude region.
The In-Charge Administration of the University of Ladakh, Kargil Campus, acknowledged the collective efforts of the district administration, police, health, PDD, and other departments whose coordination ensured the smooth conduct of the tournament. He extended heartfelt thanks to the staff, volunteers, referees, and sponsors for their dedication and support.
The event also featured a colorful cultural presentation by students of the University of Ladakh, showcasing the vibrant cultural heritage of Ladakh. Awards were presented to outstanding players: Miss Ganga Sharma (Most Valuable Player), Miss Ruchi (Best Raider), and Miss Champa Thakur (Best Tackler). Punjab University, Chandigarh, was honored as the Most Disciplined Team.
Medals were awarded to the top teams: Lovely Professional University (Gold), Kurukshetra University (Silver), and Guru Kashi University (Bronze).
The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Jigmet Dechen, Organizing Director, who expressed deep gratitude to all dignitaries, participating universities, departments, and contributors for making the event a grand success.
