“Indian Army, Government Degree College, Kargil (GDC) and Ladakh Academy of
Art, Culture & Languages, Kargil organised Literary Festival ‘Qalaam aur Virasat’ to
promote local culture and literature in the region”
Indian Army in collaboration with Government Degree College, Kargil (GDC)
has organised a Literary Festival with the theme ‘Qaalam aur Virasat’, celebrating
Literary Culture of Ladakh Highlands on 13th Sep 2025. The festivals aimed to
celebrate the rich literary tradition of Ladakh while fostering dialogue between
history, culture and literature. The event featured an interactive session with regional
language experts and panel discussion on the influence of history on literature in the
region. The festival also showcased local art, craft work and book stalls creating a
platform for artists and writers to display their work and engage with community.
This festival was able to strengthen the bond of local communities and their
heritage which encourage literary expression and inspire future generations.
The organisers also emphasised that Kargil being in a remote area of Ladakh
often lacks large scale literary and cultural activities. This festival sought to bridge
that gap by offering students, youth and wider community opportunities to engage
with literature and cultural heritage and to nurture their creative aspirations.
