One- Day Workshop & Capacity Building Programme Held in Kargil
Kargil, Sep 22/ VOL News Desk/ The Ladakh Power Development Department (SDA), UT Ladakh, organized a one-day Workshop & Capacity Building Programme under BEE Scheme, on #Energy Efficiency #Energy Conservation at The Highland Mountain Resort & Spa, Baroo Tsoq.
The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), a statutory body under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, established in 2002, aims to reduce energy intensity in the Indian economy through a series of innovative initiatives. The Kargil workshop was part of this broader mission to promote #sustainable Development practices across the region.
The programme witnessed active participation from Technical experts, including the Technical Officer, Executive Engineers from EPD, EDD, and STD Kargil, all Assistant Executive Engineers, Assistant Engineers, Junior Engineers and Accounts Officer to the Chief Engineer (Distribution Wing), PDD Kargil, along with the BEE Consultant Team of SDA Ladakh.

During the workshop, Master Trainer Dr. Chandra Shekhar Azad, Green Tree Global highlighted the critical role of energy efficiency in reducing consumption, conserving resources, and cutting energy intensity at the national level. The discussions centered around:
Energy Conservation & Energy Efficient Techniques
Solar Technologies
Sustainable Development
Standards, Labelling, and Check Testing Programmes
The initiative emphasized the need for adopting energy-efficient practices in domestic & commercial buildings, transport and industries, alongside raising awareness among stakeholders about long-term benefits.
Officials stated that such capacity-building programmes will play a vital role in making Ladakh a frontrunner in energy efficiency, aligning with India’s commitment to sustainability and clean energy & net zero emission.
The workshop was inaugurated by syed murtaza who shared valuable insights on the significance of energy efficiency & energy conservation in Ladakh’s unique climatic and geographical context.
Dr. Chandra Shekhar Azad, Master Trainer from Green Tree Global, delivered a series of detailed presentations on energy conservation, sustainable practices and many more to make aware about energy efficiency.
In the morning session, Dr. Azad highlighted Energy conservation and efficiency measures, Solar energy techniques and their application in Ladakh, Availability of solar resources in Leh and decentralized energy generation, Leh & kargil City Climate Action Plan and Ladakh’s unique solar potential, Solar passive heating and radiant heating technologies, Grid-connected solar PV and EV charging systems for rural areas.
In the post-lunch session, discussions focused on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): An overview and their relevance for Ladakh and Standards & Labelling Programme: Star Label descriptions, list of appliances, enforcement mechanisms, and the credibility of the program.
The workshop concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, encouraging interaction and knowledge sharing among participants.
The Certificate of Participation were also distributed among the participants.
