Grand Celebrations of Prophet Muhammad’s Birth Anniversary & Unity Week in Kargil

Kargil, September 6: To mark the auspicious birth anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), a solemn gathering was organised today at Jama Masjid Hanfiyah by the Ahl-e-Sunnat wal Jamaat, Kargil. A large number of devotees participated in the event.
The programme began with recitations of naat and manqabat, where poets and reciters paid rich tributes to the Prophet. Speakers highlighted various aspects of the Prophet’s noble life and teachings, emphasising that his message continues to serve as a guiding light for all humanity. They also underscored the importance of unity among Muslims, calling it the need of the hour to spread Islam’s message of peace and brotherhood more effectively across the world.
In connection with the occasion, a special Eid Milad-un-Nabi gathering was also held at Jama Masjid Kargil, which witnessed significant participation from the local community. Similar celebrations were organised with devotion and grandeur in Drass sub-division and Panikhar, where clerics spoke about the significance of Hafta-e-Wahdat (Unity Week) and urged Muslims to strengthen brotherhood and solidarity.
It may be recalled that while the Ahl-e-Sunnat commemorate the Prophet’s birth on 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal, the Shia community observes it on 17th Rabi-ul-Awwal. To bridge this gap, the founder of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini, had declared the days from 12th to 17th Rabi-ul-Awwal as “Unity Week,” so that Muslims across the globe could celebrate the Prophet’s legacy together. Today, Unity Week is observed worldwide as a symbol of Muslim solidarity.
