Complete Shutdown in Kargil on KDA’s Call; Normal Life Paralyzed

Kargil, Sep 25/ VOL News Desk/ A complete shutdown was observed in Kargil district today following the call of the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA), bringing normal life across the region to a standstill.

According to details, the KDA announced the shutdown during a press conference yesterday in solidarity with the ongoing hunger strike in Leh, after the health condition of two elderly participants deteriorated. Following the call, markets, commercial establishments, and public transport remained closed across the district, with even private vehicles absent from the roads.

The strike also had a strong impact on the education sector. Attendance in government schools was negligible, while all private schools remained completely closed. To maintain law and order, Ladakh Police along with paramilitary forces were deployed at key locations and along the National Highway.

The shutdown was not confined to the district headquarters alone but also extended to major subdivisions, including Sankoo, Drass, Shakar Chiktan, and Zanskar, where a complete strike was observed. The widespread response reflects the strong public and political support in Kargil for the Apex Body’s ongoing hunger strike in Leh.

Meanwhile, the District Magistrate today imposed Section 163 of the BNS in Kargil as a precautionary measure, placing restrictions on public gatherings and assemblies to ensure peace and order in the district.
