Sunni community in Leh demands postponement of LAHDC Leh elections till delimitation
Leh, August 01, 2025: The Sunni community of District Leh organized a human chain protest at the historical Jama Masjid in Leh to advocate for postponement of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh elections till the delimitation and formation of new districts in Lasakh.
Dr Abdul Qayyum, President of Anjuman Mainul Islam, Leh while speaking to media explicitly requested the postponement of the council elections until the delimitation process is completed.
The existing council is 25 years old, and significant changes have occurred in Ladakh, including its separation from erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir and the creation of new districts, necessitating a fresh delimitation, stated Dr Qayyum.

A memorandum has been submitted to the Home Minister, Home Secretary, and the Council, requesting a revisit of the delimitation process to address existing disparities.
The community also plan to visit Delhi to present the memorandum and advocate for a genuine delimitation that considers population and regional distances.
