Over 1200 Shia Women Attend Annual Muharram Majlis in Leh
Leh, July 7, 2025 — The Annual Muharram Majlis exclusively for women was successfully organised under the aegis of Anjuman Imamia Women’s Wing, Leh-Ladakh, at the historic Chuchot Yokma Imambara. The event was led by the organisation’s president, Nasreen Maryam.
The spiritually enriching gathering drew more than 1200 Shia women from across the Leh district, creating a powerful atmosphere of reflection, mourning, and empowerment in observance of the sacred month of Muharram.
Thought-Provoking Lectures and Social Awareness
The Majlis featured a series of insightful lectures delivered by distinguished women scholars including Alima Zahra Bano Agha, Alima Halima Bano Agha, Alima Zainab Khatoon (Phyang), Alima Zahra Khatoon Akhondi, Alima Amina Khatoon Nasari, Alima Zahra Bano Kashmiri, Archo Rizwana, Archo Salam Khatoon, and Alima Zahra Khatoon Rahimi.

In addition to highlighting the moral and spiritual lessons from the tragedy of Karbala, the speakers addressed pressing contemporary issues such as drug abuse, environmental conservation, cultural preservation, and the pivotal role of women in shaping a compassionate and just society.
Notable Guests and Community Participation
Among the special guests were Kaneez Fatima, President of the Hussaini Federation; the principal and staff of Imamia Mission School, Chuchot; the vice principal and students of Imamia Model School; and representatives from International ROOH School.
The Anjuman Imamia Women’s Wing extended heartfelt gratitude to all contributors who supported the event, including Hon. Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), Hon. Executive Councillor (EC) Mehdi, and Hon. Councillor Mumtaz of Hill Council, Leh, for their patronage and logistical assistance. Thanks were also conveyed to the Volunteer Group Chuchot, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Leh and medical staff, Leh Police, and Leh Administration for providing essential services.
Community Efforts Recognised
Special appreciation was extended to Shabbir Kullu, Mughal Darbar Leh, Grand Wazwan Leh, Awqaf Committee Chuchot Yokma, and the numerous selfless volunteers who contributed to the smooth organisation of the event.
The Annual Muharram Majlis continues to be a significant platform for spiritual growth and social dialogue among women in Leh, underscoring the enduring relevance of faith, community solidarity, and civic responsibility.
