Leh, Ladakh – The Apex Body Leh, under the Co-Chairmanship of Shri Chering Dorje Lakrook, convened a crucial meeting today to address significant developments concerning Ladakh’s leadership and its ongoing dialogue with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). Key discussions centered on the recent resignation of Shri Thupstan Chhewang and the strategic inclusion of Shri Sonam Wangchuk into the High-Powered Committee (HPC).

In a unanimous resolution, members of the Apex Body fervently appealed to Shri Thupstan Chhewang to reconsider his decision to step down from the Chairmanship. Emphasizing the paramount interests of Ladakh’s future, the body reaffirmed its unwavering support for his leadership, citing deep respect for his vision and guidance. As a demonstration of solidarity, members visited Shri Chhewang at his residence, conveying a united message that he remains the sole leader capable of steering their movement. Shri Chhewang, in response, assured members he would reflect on the matter and address it at an appropriate time.

Further bolstering its representation, the Apex Body officially welcomed and inducted Shri Sonam Wangchuk as its representative in the HPC and its Sub-Committee, constituted for talks with the MHA. This decision, following detailed deliberations on July 5, 2025, recognizes Shri Wangchuk’s steadfast commitment to Ladakh’s cause and his vocal advocacy for its people’s aspirations.

The meeting also acknowledged the resignation of Shri Nawang Rigzin Jora from the HPC and its Sub-Committee, submitted on July 5, 2025. While appreciating his past contributions and requesting him to reconsider, Shri Jora affirmed his continued support and participation within the Apex Body and the High-Powered Committee. He also reiterated his ongoing support and respect for Shri Thupstan Chhewang’s Chairmanship and leadership of the Apex Body Leh.
