KARGIL, OCTOBER 25, 2021: Over “slow and unsatisfactory” snow clearance work on Kargil-Zanskar National highway 301 by NHIDCL, the Deputy Commissioner Kargil on Monday instructed the agency to speedup the work, said an order issued by the DM office.

The order read that, “Whereas, vide MoU between NHIDCL and PWD Kargil dated 23/06/2021 the construction, operation and maintenance including snow clearance during winter months of Kargil- Zanskar ( NH-301) road was transferred to NHIDCL.

“Whereas, vide letter DC-KLAC-NH-301/KZR/2021 dated 18/09/2021, the undersigned had requested the Executive Director, NHIDCL, RO Ladakh to make advanced arrangements of Men and Machinery for snow clearance operation during winter months.

“Whereas, due to recent snowfall on 22nd and 230 of this month, the Kargil-Zanskar highway has been blocked at multiple locations and the snow clearance operation by NHIDCL is very slow and not to the satisfaction of District Administration and People of Kargil living on NH-301 axis.

“Therefore, in view of the above, it is hereby ordered that the NHIDCL shall deploy additional men and machinery immediately by way of hiring from local sources and ensure that road is cleared by 26th October
2021 positively”, the order emphasized.
