Young Gandhian on world tour reaches Kargil

KARGIL, AUGUST 22, 2021: Young Gandhian from Pune Nitin Sonawane called on the Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad, Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Santosh and Senior Superintendent of Police Kargil Anayat Ali Choudhary here today.

District Coordinator Gandhi Global Family Kargil Ghulam Muhammad Khan besides other concerned officers were also present on the occasion.

Nitin a 30 year old engineer from Rashin village in Maharashtra is on world tour on foot and bicycle for the last 5 years, and arrived in Kargil Town on Saturday after covering 46 countries in 5 continents across the world by walk and cycle.  He is a young Gandhian spreading the message of truth and non-violence of Mahatma Gandhi.

Interacting with the young Gandhian, CEC Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan highly appreciated Nitin’s dedication and commitment in traversing different countries on foot and bicycle to propagate Gandhi’s principle of truth, harmony and non-violence which still remain relevant in the 21st century.

DC Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve also hailed Nitin Sonawane and said that his extraordinary feat will prove to be an inspiration to people especially the youth to realise and dwell upon Gandhian principles and values which have a great life lesson in them. 

SSP Kargil Anayat Ali Choudhary on the occasion said that Nitin’s 5 year old journey should be an inspiration to many as to how we can contribute in bringing peace and harmony in the world by promoting the values and principles of Mahatma Gandhi.

Meanwhile, Nitin said that his journey is based on generosity and kindness of people adding he said that his belief in humanity helped him to grow these values more.

Nitin Sonawane started his Journey on 18th November, 2016 from Sewagram Ashram Wardha and cycled in 20 countries  including India, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea, USA, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and walked in 26 countries including Japan, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia , Sudan, Egypt, Scotland, England, North Ireland, Ireland, Germany, Spain, Georgia, Turkey, Serbia, Albania, Macedonia, Montenegro, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan .

Nitin rode around 25000 kms on bicycle and walked around 11000 kms across the world. He is culminating his journey on 2nd October this year at Raj Ghat Delhi on the 152nd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
