Stress on prioritising local labourers in BRO & Highway Projects

Kargil, June 14: Chairman, CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon along with Member of Parliament, Ladakh, Haji Mohamad Haneefa Jan called on Director General, Border Road Organisation and MoS for Road and Transport.

The CEC and MP urged the officials for engagement of local labourers in BRO projects in the region.

In a meeting with the Director General of BRO, Dr. Akhoon and Mohmad Haneefa Jan emphasised the importance of prioritizing local labourers in ongoing and upcoming BRO projects across Kargil. They highlighted the potential benefits of such engagement, including boosting the local economy and providing much-needed employment opportunities to the residents.

Dr. Akhoon and Haji Haneefa Jan also met with the Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, urging for the prioritization of local workers in highway construction and maintenance projects.

Further, they called for the acceleration of work on Zojilla Pass, particularly at the Eastern Portal, stressing the importance of involving local labourers in these efforts to ensure timely completion and community participation.

Both the DG of BRO and the MoS for Road Transport and Highways assured the CEC and MP Ladakh that they would look into the matter seriously and consider their recommendations to incorporate local labourers in these infrastructure projects.
