World Environment Day celebrated in Zanskar Subdivision
Kargil, June 05: On World Environment Day a cleanliness drive was organized in Zanskar Sub Division under the aegis of Zanskar Administration, RD&PRD in collaboration with Zanskar Buddhist Association Youth Wing in and around the Headquarter.
The cleanliness drive was flagged off by SDM Zanskar, Romil Singh Donk from Tourist Dak Bunglow. The event saw participation of officers along with their subordinates, Merchant Association Hotel Association, Vegetable Vander and hundreds of volunteers.
During the drive, garbage, waste was lifted to the segregation plant setup by RD&PRD and the dumping site. The garbage/waste was taken to the dumping site by Dumper, Tractor, Tippers arranged by NHIDCL, Greef and Contractor Association.

An awareness programme was also organized in which school children of Rinbow and Duzin Photang took part. The students were carrying placards when they entered the event and shouted slogans about the clean and green environment.
Block Development Officer, Zanskar, Tsewang Rigzin informed the gathering that the RD&PRD is planting 5 lakh plants in the Sub Division under MGNREGA schemes.
The SDM stressed the general public to keep their environment clean and use the waste management van which is provided by RD&PRD and visits door to door on scheduled time.
Many other scholars also highlighted how to save the environment and stop climate change impact in the region. The speakers included Assistant Professor Thupstan Dolkar GMDC Zanskar, President ZBA, ZGA, Anjuman Association Zanskar and Assistant Professor Shayan Jamphal of GMDC Zanskar.
The school children also presented skit show and cultural programmes that enthralled the audience. In the end, Vice President ZBA Youth Wing Zanskar presented vote of thanks.
