CEC, DC Kargil Clarifies Misunderstanding Regarding Y20 Pre-Summit Participation
Leh, April 27 – In response to a tweet by social activist Sajjad Kargili, DC Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve has clarified that Kargil was not ignored or sidelined during the Y20 pre-summit in Leh, Ladakh. The tweet had raised concerns about the absence of Kargil administration and LAHDC-K (Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Kargil) representatives from the event.
In an interview with a correspondent from Voice of Ladakh, CEC Feroz Ahmad Khan explained that LAHDC Kargil made a conscious decision not to participate in the Y20 pre-summit, considering it to be a relatively smaller event compared to the major G20 summit. He clarified that their choice was not intended as a protest but rather based on the perception of the event’s significance.
Furthermore, CEC Khan pointed out that the invitation for the event was received quite late, on April 25, which coincided with his pre-scheduled trip to the remote village of Itchoo. This timing made it challenging for the LAHDC Kargil team to rearrange their plans and make arrangements for their participation in the summit.

Sajjad Kargili had questioned whether the UT (Union Territory) administration was responsible for the supposed neglect of Kargil district or if it was the decision of Kargil’s own administration and council to skip the event. He expressed disappointment at the exclusion of Kargil from such an international gathering, stating that it was unjust to the people of Kargil and questioned if Ladakh could be represented without Kargil.
In response, DC Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve clarified that no one had ignored Kargil. Invitations were indeed sent to LAHDC-K, but all the Hon’ble Councillors of LAHDC Kargil expressed their unwillingness to participate in the event. He requested against spreading unnecessary rumors and urged individuals to verify facts before making allegations.
The clarification from DC Kargil aims to address the misunderstanding and shed light on the council’s decision regarding their non-participation in the Y20 pre-summit.
