Ladakh National Lok Adalat Settles Numerous Cases

Hon’ble Mrs. Justice Sindhu Sharma Judge High Court of J&K and Ladakh and Executive Chairman Ladakh Legal Services Authority, virtually inaugurated the 2nd National Lok Adalat on 31/05/2025 at the District Court Complex Leh. Present on the occasion were Mr. Manoj Parihar Member Secretary and Principal District and Sessions Judge Leh, Mr. Tsewang Phunstog Ld. CJM Leh, Mrs. Phuntsog Angmo Secretary DLSA/ Special Mobile Magistrate Leh, Senior Prosecuting officers, Legal aid Defense Counsels, Executive members and other members of the bar, panel lawyers, PLVs and litigants.

On the occasion Hon’ble Mrs. Justice Sindhu Sharma Judge High Court of J&K and Ladakh and Executive Chairman Ladakh Legal Services Authority applauded that though Ladakh region is geographically vast and climatically harsh but the people of Ladakh are peace loving which is implied by less litigation in the region. Another reason for fewer litigation in the region is that the people of Ladakh prefer to solve their disputes amicably even today. Her ladyship also mentioned that with the development in the region litigation is also bound to increase, but litigants must resort to ADR system of dispute resolution, Lok Adalat being one of them, as per past practice prevalent in the region.

A total of 06 Benches were constituted in the said National Lok Adalat viz. Bench No. 1 comprising of Sh. Manoj Parihar, Pr. District & Sessions Judge Leh and Advocate Namgail Wangchuk. Bench No.2 comprising of Mr. Tsewang Phuntsog, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Leh and Advocate Mohd Ramzan. Bench No. 3 comprising Mrs. Phuntsog Angmo, Special Mobile Magistrate, Leh and Advocate Touseef Ahmad. Bench No. 4 comprising Assistant Commissioner Revenue Leh and Tehsildar, Leh. Bench No.5 at Khaltsi comprising of Mr. Sayed Tayoub Bukhari, Munsiff Khaltsi. Bench No.06 at Nobra comprising of Shri Lakshay Badyal, Munsiff Nobra and Advocate Zulikha Bano.

Cases pertaining to Bank Cases, Recovery matters, Matrimonial Cases, Criminal Compoundable Cases, Civil Case, Labour disputes etc. were taken up and disposed of in the National Lok Adalat. A total of 359 cases were taken up by the different benches, out of which 315 cases were disposed of, total settlement amount was Rs. 85,58,020/- (Rupees Eighty Five Lakh Fifty Bight Thousand twenty only/-).
