Ladakh Honors Outstanding Educators at Inaugural State Teachers Award 2024

Leh, May 29, 2025: To celebrate the contribution of the finest teachers/masters in Ladakh and to honour those teachers/masters who, through their commitment and industry, have not only improved the quality of school education but also enriched the lives of their students, the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) presented awards to 12 teachers/masters during the 1st State Teachers Award 2024 organised by the Department of School Education, UT Ladakh, at Arya Nagarjuna Auditorium Hall, Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS), Choglamsar.
Teachers and Masters to win the awards included Mehboob Ali from Higher Secondary School, Trespone; Shamima Bano from Higher Secondary School, Chuchot; Farzana Parveen from High School Goma in Kargil; Rinchen Angmo from Boys Higher Secondary School, Leh; Mohd Abdullah from Middle School, Karith; Dr Lotus Rabgais from Middle School, Taknak (Sakti); Mohd Yusuf from Model Middle School Biathang, Shilikchey; Chamba Yangtak from Igoo, Langkhor; Talib Hussain from High School, Kaksar; Ishey Lamo from High School, Domkhar; Khaduim Hussain from Higher Secondary School, Pashkyum and Sonam Angchuk from Higher Secondary School, Baima, Leh.
Congratulating teachers/masters, who won the first state teachers award- a recognition for their dedication and merit, the HLG stated that teachers hold a higher place than God because teachers are the ones who keep students on the right track and teach them the ways of the world. Reiterating education’s significance in a person’s life and the duty of parents/guardians to provide the best possible education to his/her child, he also highlighted the significant roles played by teachers in shaping the personality of students by providing a composite package to students, thereby fostering a sense of nationalism in them. He asked the teachers to master the art of shaping students’ personalities for the betterment of Ladakh and the overall development of the nation.
The HLG highlighted the need to cash in on futuristic trends such as harnessing nuclear energy, as envisioned by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, to meet the growing power demand. Commending teachers/faculty of the Education Department for the progress made over the years to improve the education standard in Ladakh, he highlighted various steps taken for the benefit of students, such as transition from JKBOSE to CBSE curriculum, adoption of National Education Policy 2020, etc. He also highlighted the need to adopt futuristic trends and asked the teaching staff of the Education Department to adopt good practices and innovative teaching ideas/techniques for the benefit of students and the overall development of Ladakh.
Deputy Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Tsering Angchuk, congratulating the award winners, highlighted the improvement in board exam results from last year, which, he said, is due to the collective efforts of the teaching staff. He commended the teaching staff for inculcating the habit of critical thinking among students. He also highlighted various initiatives taken for students, such as providing transportation to government schools, clubbing a few schools in villages to convert them into residential schools and the proposal to train staff to operate Atal Tinkering labs in schools for a better learning experience for students.
Chief Secretary Dr Pawan Kotwal, IAS, highlighted the pivotal role played by teachers in shaping the future of students and acknowledged the role his teachers played in helping him achieve success in life. He informed about the initiatives taken by the UT Administration, under the leadership of the HLG, to acknowledge and honour government employees for their exemplary work and dedication. He also shared the aim of the Government of India under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi to harness the potential of nuclear energy and the need to raise awareness among people about the potential of nuclear energy for the benefit of the nation. Dr Pawan Kotwal, IAS, also asked the teaching staff to help students from Ladakh become toppers so that they could bring laurels to Ladakh and the nation.
Earlier, Secretary, School Education Department, Bhanu Prabha, IAS, welcomed the guests while Director, School Education Department, Tsering Paldan, JKAS, delivered the vote of thanks.
First Lady Smt Neelam Mishra; Hon’ble Councillor of LAHDC Leh/Kargil; elected representatives; Vice-Chancellor, CIBS, Prof Rajesh Ranjan; administrative secretaries; officials, teaching staff and faculty of Education Department; religious heads and government officials were present at the event.
