Kargil Forest Division & School Unite for Pre-Environment Day Campaign
Kargil, May 31, 2025 – In a significant prelude to World Environment Day celebrations, a pre-World Environment Day campaign was organized by the Forest Department Kargil, Sankoo Range, in collaboration with Government High School Thasgam. The event was graced by the presence of the Range Officer Sankoo Niyaz Ali , Block Development Officer, Soil Conservation Department, school staff, students, and officials from the Forest Department.
Following the inauguration, a pledge-taking ceremony was conducted. The Range Officer led the pledge in the presence of students, teachers, and department staff, committing all participants to uphold environmental responsibility and work collectively toward environmental conservation.
The next segment of the campaign featured a plantation drive within the school premises reinforcing the theme of environmental protection through action. The initiative aimed to instill a sense of stewardship and responsibility for nature among the younger generation.

After the plantation drive, the Range Officer addressed the students, emphasizing the significance of World Environment Day and its relevance in the current global context. He shed light on this year’s theme—“Ending Plastic Pollution”—and explained the harmful impacts of plastic on biodiversity and ecosystems.
To extend the outreach of the campaign beyond the school, announcements were carried out in Sankoo town to raise awareness about World Environment Day. The messages focused on various aspects of environmental protection, including the reduction of plastic use, waste management, and community involvement in green initiatives.
In the second phase of the campaign, a cleanliness drive was organized at the Forest Unit Karpokhar. The drive aimed not only to restore cleanliness to the area but also to educate participants about the harmful consequences of improper waste disposal.
Refreshments were served by the Forest Department to all participants as a gesture of appreciation for their involvement and contribution to the campaign.
The event concluded with a word of thanks delivered by Forester Sankoo, Mohd Ali who expressed his gratitude to all the officials from various departments, the students, the Forest Department staff, and the local community for their active participation.
