Delhi, 04-12-2024: The Hon’ble Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, met with the Hon’ble Civil Aviation Minister, Government of India, along with the Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Ladakh, to discuss key issues regarding the operation and development of Kargil Airport.

During the meeting, Dr. Akhoon emphasized the need to start civil flight operations at the airport. He proposed operating 72-seater aircraft and, if that is not possible for now, suggested using 19-seater aircraft as an alternative. The discussions also covered the expansion of the runway and the overall development of the airport to accommodate future needs. Additionally, Dr. Akhoon requested that an expert committee visit the airport again to reassess the feasibility of aircraft operations.

The Hon’ble Civil Aviation Minister agreed to all four proposals and assured full cooperation in addressing these matters promptly. This commitment reflects the government’s dedication to improving connectivity and fostering development in the Kargil region.
