NC-Congress Alliance deal sealed in J&K: NC to contest 51 seats, Congress 32 in upcoming Assembly Elections

Srinagar, Aug 26 (KINS): In a significant development ahead of the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir elections, the National Conference (NC) and the Indian National Congress have formalized a seat-sharing agreement aimed at enhancing their electoral prospects.
Under the agreement, the National Conference will contest 51 of the 90 available seats, while the Congress will field candidates in 32 constituencies. Additionally, five seats will feature friendly contests between the two parties, and one seat each will be contested by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) and the Panthers Party in Jammu.

As per new agency KINS, the announcement was made at a joint press conference held in Srinagar by NC President Farooq Abdullah, Congress General Secretary KC Vennugopal, and state Congress President Tariq Hameed Karra.
Farooq Abdullah expressed strong support for the alliance, emphasizing its focus on combating divisive elements in the region. “We are entering into this formula to fight together and win the elections. Our primary objective is to save the people of Kashmir from those who seek to create discord and division,” Abdullah stated.
He highlighted that the NC and Congress are united in their vision for the development and security of Jammu and Kashmir.
KC Vennugopal underscored the strategic importance of the alliance, noting, “We are committed to working together as a united front. The seat-sharing agreement is a crucial step towards addressing the challenges faced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Our collaboration reflects our mutual understanding and respect, and we are confident it will lead to a successful outcome in the elections.”
Tariq Hameed Karra reinforced the collaborative spirit of the alliance, saying, “The essence of our alliance is to save the people of Kashmir. We understand each other’s perspectives and are united in our mission. We are determined to fight this election together and achieve victory for the benefit of the people.”
“The seat-sharing deal is expected to bolster the electoral prospects of both parties by avoiding direct contests and presenting a united front against their competitors. The inclusion of the CPIM and the Panthers Party in the alliance further underscores the collaborative effort to strengthen their position in the upcoming elections,” one of the political observers said .(KINS)
