KVK Kargil-II (Zanskar) organizes Foundation and Technology week
Kargil, July 18: KVK Kargil-II (Zanskar) organized an Foundation and Technology week which concluded today with an aim to encourage innovations in agriculture.
It was a 3-day long event (16 –18 July 2023) at KVK Station Padam, Zanskar and at Tungri Village. Dr. Shabber Hussain welcomed all the participants and briefly introduced the foundation and technology week.
On first day (16 July), farm women, SHG, students, scientific staffs and supporting staff virtually participated in the inaugural session where Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare inaugurated the 95th Foundation and Technology Day.

Parshottam Rupala, Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying and Union Ministers of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Kailash Choudhary and Sushree Shobha Karandlaje graced the occasion in New Delhi.
During the long 3-day technology week, various kinds of technologies/products with potential for commercialization were exhibited. The novel technologies developed by the different ICAR institutes, SKUAST-K and KVK Kargil-II (Zanskar) were showcased in the exhibition for the benefit of the farmwomen, SHG farmers, students and rural youth to increase agricultural production, quality, and livelihood opportunity of the tribal farming community of Ladakh.
Dr Shabber Hussain, Scientist KVK educated about natural farming and its importance. He practically explained the preparation of organic liquid fertilisers and pesticides to the participants.
He further enlightened about modern farming tools, equipment displayed and also about the importance of black polyethene mulch in vegetable as well as fruit crop and the participants were appraised about its uses through demonstration.
Dr Shabber also shared some technical inputs about greenhouse farming and emphasized participants to take up those techniques in the successful farming of various vegetables which are otherwise not possible in Zanskar.
Apart from these, field exposer visits and awareness-cum-training program on mechanization, precision farming, animal minerals and Knitting products were also apprised during the events for the benefit of the tribal farming communities of Zanskar was one of the key areas of the exhibition.
The event was aimed to develop an understanding and practical knowledge about farming. Around 150 farm women from different villages and 30 students from the college of Zanskar participated.
“Technology Week 2023 successfully concluded at Tungri Village of Zanskar. The event ended on a positive note, delivering a great opportunity to celebrate the technology week that drives our country’s technological progress.
It showcased cutting-edge technologies, innovative solutions that have the potential to transform agriculture sectors and improve the quality of life of people.
