District Kargil Olympic Association Facilities Award Winning Athletes
KARGIL, APRIL 15, 2021: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan while underlining the importance of sports for youngsters said that sports promote healthy living, understanding, camaraderie and goodwill thereby leading a fit population who are productive enough to contribute towards progress and well being of the society.
The CEC stated this while addressing young players and athletes during a felicitation ceremony organized by the District Kargil Olympic Association Kargil at Conference Hall Baroo today.
The felicitation ceremony was held to felicitate the athletes and players from the district who have won medals in various national level events recently and the players who participated in the 1st Ice Hockey Womens Coaching Camp held in Kargil from 22nd January to 10th February, 2021.
Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve, SSP Kargil Anayat Ali Choudhary, Additional Deputy Commissioner Tsering Motup, Chief Planning Officer Abdul Hadi, other district officers, members of the District Olympic Association Kargil and young athletes and players were present on the occasion.
CEC Feroz Ahmad Khan while congratulating the medal winners in different sporting events at the national level and the players of the 1st Womens Ice Hockey team of the district urged them to pursue their sporting passion with continued zeal and passion to bring recognition to the district and to add prestige to Ladakh UT at the national and international level. He said that the LAHDC, Kargil is fully committed to extend all possible infrastructural facilities and equipments to the budding players.
The CEC also appreciated the efforts of District Kargil Olympic Association for having organized a number of sporting events in a short span of time after its establishment in the year 2020 especially the formation of the first ever Women Ice Hockey team from Kargil.
CEC Khan stated that Sports Sector in the district has got a major fillip after the formation of Ladakh as UT and local clubs and players now have ample opportunities of coaching, infrastructure and participation in national and international events. He also assured to improve and develop the sports facilities in the district and emphasized the need to improve sports activities and facilities at school level so that the youth get opportunities in sports along with studies.
Underlining the need to encourage traditional sports apart from modern sports, the CEC said that sports curriculum presently in vogue in schools should be studied and modifications made as the per the topography and other geo-climatic conditions of the district.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve said it is heartening to see that the youth in Kargil doing well in sports. He further said that since the youth are trained well in Olympics oriented activities they can do well in Olympic Games as well. He further assured that the Administration is committed to focus on youth oriented activities and their all out development.
SSP Kargil Anayat Ali Choudhary said this is a matter of pride that the youth in Kargil are doing well in sports despite of their geographic and climatic hurdles. He assured all type of support from the Police Department to improve sports and develop its facility.
Later, the CEC and other dignitaries distributed mementoes and appreciation certificates among the athletes and officers of the administration for their contribution in the successful conduct of the 1st Ice Hockey Womens Coaching Camp held in Kargil.
The medal winners, athletes and players who were felicitated on the occasion included Muhammad Javed, Asgar Ali, Kalbi Ali, Muhammad Raza, Ilyas Ali, Nawaz Ali, Muhammad Abbas, Yasmeen, Zarina, Amreen, Saniya Zahra, Archo Saniya Zahra, Shabana Batool, Khairun Nissa, Ghulam Rasool, Safdar Ali, Archo Bilquees Fatima, Ummul Baneen, Muzaffar Ali Khan, Asiya Banoo, Rinchan Dolkar, Iftikhar Hussain, Nissar Ali and Muhammad Hassan, who participated in the National Volleyball Championship from 5th to 11th March, 2021 at KIT University Bhubaneswar Orissa, National Senior Boys Handball Championship at Indore Madhya Pradesh from 31st March to 3rd April, 2021, Junior Girls at Uttar Pradesh from 30th March to 2nd April, 2021, Senior Girls at Uttar Pradesh from 17th to 23rd March, 2021, 29th Senior National Wushu Championship at Chandigarh University from 6th February to 3rd March, 2021 and 21st National Sqay Championship at Jaipur Rajasthan from 25th to 28th February, 2021.
