World Water Day: Series of Events held Across Kargil
KARGIL, MARCH 22, 2021: Observing the World Water Day 2021 on the theme “Valuing Water” series of events held at different places of Kargil today.
With other parts of the country, Gram Panchayats across Kargil district attended the webcast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nationwide address on Jal Shakti Abhiyan with the theme of “Catch the rain, when and where it falls”.
After the webcast, Sarpanchs conducted Gram Sabhas on value and conservation of water. PRI members along with villagers conducted Safai Abhiyan of nearby water bodies highlighting the preciousness and sacredness of water bodies.

At the end, PRI members along with the villagers took the Jal Shapath- an oath to conserve water, acknowledge its value and spread the message on water conservation.
Similarly, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Kargil organized an awareness programme to celebrate World Water Day at Munshi Habibullah Mission School (MHMS) Higher Secondary School Kargil.
Chairman DLSA Kargil and Principal District and Sessions Judge Kargil Muhammad Rafiq Chak, Secretary DLSA Kargil Wangial Tsering, Principal MHMS Higher Secondary School Abdul Hadi, Chairman REWA Society Sajjad Hussain Munshi, President Bar Association Kargil Advocate Khadim Hussain, Advocate Muhammad Salim, teaching staff of Munshi Habibullah Mission Higher Secondary School, staffs of court and Para Legal Volunteers besides students were present on the occasion.
Secretary DLSA Kargil Wangial Tsering, Principal MHMS Abdul Hadi, President Bar Association Advocate Khadim Hussain and Advocate Muhammad Salim threw light on the history and importance of the day and need of the hour for recognizing importance of water and various ways to conserve water.
The speakers also stressed on fundamental duty to protect and improve environment including river and lakes. Later, Secretary DLSA Kargil thanked all the participants and appealed to all for spreading their message of importance of the day.
Various other awareness programs related to World Water Day were also conducted at different venues by DLSA Kargil through PLVs. One program was held at Bodhkharboo by PLVs Tsering Choldan and Stanzin Chorol and both spoke on the occasion.
Another program was conducted at Pachikhar by PLV Pasang Dolma which was attended by the local villagers. Speakers on the occasion highlighted the importance of the day.
On other side, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kargil-I celebrated World Water Day under the theme of “Valuing Water” at Government Higher Secondary School Yourbaltak here today.
Executive Councilor for Horticulture Aga Syed Hassan Arman Musavi, Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) Kargil Ghulam Muhammad, Chief Agriculture Officer Kargil Kacho Muhammad Ali Khan, Scientist and Head KVK Kargil-I Dr Ghulam Mehdi Akhoon, Block Development Officer (BDO) Sodh Mehmooda Munshi Principal Government Higher Secondary School Yurbaltak Jigmet Dorjay, besides good number of farmers participated in the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, EC Horticulture Aga Syed Hassan Arman congratulated the KVK team for successfully organizing this important day in the most suitable area of the district.
He emphasized on the implementation of various workable techniques and measures discussed during the day long programme, adding he stressed the need to develop Sodh Block as a model village for micro irrigation system.
Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) in his address appealed the people to come forward with proper plans through public representatives so that some portion of Councilors CDF can be diverted for solving water crisis in the district.
Chief Agriculture Officer Kargil congratulated the people of Sodh block for sanctioning of a mega project on micro irrigation worth Rs 12 crores which is expected to be implemented soon.
Similarly, Government Degree College Drass in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra, Kargil organized an Inter-semester Quiz Competition on the theme “Water Conservation” in the college today. 4 teams of students from different semesters participated in the quiz competition with enthusiasm.
