MC Kargil issues notices for cleanliness, maintenance of Town
KARGIL, MARCH 26, 2021: In order to ensure cleanliness and proper maintenance of Kargil Town, Municipal Committee (MC) Kargil has issued several notices to landlords, hoteliers, contractors, shopkeepers and other relevant stakeholders.
In one of the notices, the MC Kargil has stated that it has been generally observed that rented buildings in Kargil town have not been equipped with toilet facilities, which is an indispensable pre-requisite for rental out accommodation to the tenants both in law as well as general morality. Due to absence of such important facility, the tenants are forced to face enormous inconvenience besides also leads to open defecation in the town.
“In order to discourage open defecation and to ensure cleanliness and hygiene in the town, it is impressed upon all the owners of the buildings which have no toilet facilities to avoid providing accommodation to the tenants on rental basis. The owners of the rented buildings provided without toilet facilities to the tenants will be dealt with seriously and action as per Municipal Act 2000 will be taken, both against the house owners and tenants, apart from lodging of FIR against the defaulters”, reads the notice.

In another notice, the Municipal Committee has stated that it has been observed that the house owners and the contractors who construct their buildings/other departmental works on roadsides are dumping the building materials on the roadside during construction time and have left the unused construction materials like sand, aggregates, etc on the roadside which is violation of J&K Municipal Act 2000.
“It is therefore impressed upon all the house owners/contractors who have kept the materials on roadside in Kargil town including Baroo Colony, Titichumik and Baroo village to lift the left-over materials within 2 days, failing which action will be taken against the violators”, the notice reads.
Yet another notice by the Municipal Committee said, “It has been observed that most of the shopkeepers, hoteliers/restaurant owners and vegetable sellers of Kargil town are throwing the garbage/wastes on road/drain at the time of closing their shops during evening time which is totally a nuisance and also violation of J&K Municipal Act 2000.It is therefore impressed upon all the shopkeepers, hoteliers/restaurant owners and vegetable sellers to avoid such practices in future. Any violation, if found, action under law shall be initiated against the violators”.
