Leh, March 22, 2021: With other parts of the world, different organisations and fraternities in Leh district of Ladakh also observed the World Water Day 2021 today.

The officials of UT Administration, including the Deputy Chairman, LAHDC, Leh; Executive Councillor, Agriculture, LAHDC; Deputy Commissioner, Leh; Chairpersons of Block Development Councils; Sarpanches; Chief Planning Officer, Leh; Executive Engineer, PHE, Leh and officers from the different department, took part in the World Water Day celebration at the DC Conference Hall.

The officials from Leh district attended the virtual launch of the Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain campaign by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and listened to the PM’s address to the nation on World Water Day, in which he stressed the importance of Jal Shakti Abhiyan.

The officials from Leh also took a pledge during the event to save water.

Post-virtual address, the Deputy Chairman of LAHDC Leh highlighted the importance of people’s participation in conserving water. He also urged people to use water judiciously. Deputy Chairman, LAHDC Leh, appealed to the concerned officials to find out methods to preserve glaciers.

Speaking during the event, DC Leh, Shrikant Suse, shared that everyone is responsible for conserving water and asked them to help the government. He directed the sarpanches to take initiatives in villages to raise awareness among people on the importance of water and its conservation. 

Meanwhile, painting and essay competitions were held in different schools, along with a cleanliness drive at Leh Gate and the water pump at Tyare Rong. Similarly, special gram sabhas were organised in many villages to highlight the importance of water conservation. People also took the pledge to save water during the events.
