Leh Students Rally for Environment Ahead of World Environment Day

Leh, May 31, 2025: The Department of Forest, Ecology, and Environment, in collaboration with the Department of Housing and Urban Development, UT Ladakh, organized a Student Engagement Day as part of Precampaign for World Environment Day on May 31.

During the student engagement day, students and staff from Boys Higher Secondary School, Leh, participated in an environmental awareness rally. The rally began at Boys Higher Secondary School, Leh, proceeded to the petrol pump, and returned to the school. Students participated with great enthusiasm, carrying placards and banners that emphasized the importance of environmental conservation, responsible waste management, and sustainability.

A pledge ceremony also took place where students, school staff, and organizers reaffirmed their commitment to protect the environment through daily activities and responsible behavior.

Forest Range Officer Namgyal Tashi addressed the students, emphasizing the importance of environmental conservation and the critical role of youth in shaping a cleaner and greener future. He added that this year’s World Environment Day theme, “Ending Plastic Pollution,” is very relevant to Ladakh, given the region’s fragile ecosystem. He appreciated the Principal, staff, and students of Boys Higher Secondary School, Leh, for their active participation and enthusiasm, which made the event a success.

Refreshments were arranged by the Municipal Committee, Leh, for all participants. The environmental awareness week continues in the coming days with activities dedicated to cleanliness drives, rural engagement, water conservation, and more.
