Ladakh IT Secretary Reviews Hunder Waste Management
Nubra, 31 May 2025: The Administrative Secretary of the Information Technology Department, UT Ladakh, Shashanka Ala, IAS, chaired a meeting regarding the proper utilisation of the segregation centre in Hunder at the SDM Conference Hall, Diskit.
During the meeting, the Secretary emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness and ensuring systematic waste segregation to protect the environment and promote tourism in the region.
The Secretary instructed the BDO and his team that the responsibility of operating the segregation centre properly lies with them. They were directed to collect only segregated waste, such as wet and dry waste. He also instructed the BDO to ensure that the segregation vehicle is used daily and to keep an additional vehicle available for backup.

Furthermore, the Secretary directed the BDO to hold a separate meeting regarding the recycling and reuse (re-circling) of garbage for better waste management in the region.
The Secretary also directed the Information Department to issue a public notice stating that the burning of garbage is strictly prohibited.
Additionally, the Secretary instructed the Executive Engineer, PWD Diskit, to expedite the completion of all ongoing works related to the Anganwadi Centre in Nubra by August 2025.
Other officials who attended the meeting included SDM Nubra Mukul Beniwal, ACR Leh, representative of 102 Infantry Brigdage Lt. Col. Vivak Joshi, ACD Leh, Executive Engineer PWD Diskit, CDPO Diskit, BDO Diskit, Numberdar of Hunder, and staff members of the BDO office, Nubra.
