Ladakh Celebrates Goa Statehood Day
Leh, May 30, 2025: Goa Statehood Day was celebrated with full fervour at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat under the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative, in the presence of staff from the LG Secretariat and Raj Niwas.
Goa’s Foundation Day, also known as Goa Statehood Day, is celebrated annually on May 30th. This day commemorates the day Goa became the 25th state of India in 1987. It celebrates Goa’s rich history, its liberation from Portuguese rule, and its cultural and administrative transformation into a full-fledged state. Goa was liberated from the Portuguese on 19 December 1961.
On the occasion, speakers informed the audience about Goa’s beautiful beaches, rich Portuguese colonial history and unique blend of Indian and Portuguese cultures. Goa is a popular tourist destination offering a mix of adventure and cultural exploration.

The Foundation/Statehood Day of all states/union territories are celebrated at all Raj Bhawan/Raj Niwas across the country under the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to strengthen the fabric of unity and integrity in India through the promotion of rich cultural, linguistic, and traditional heritage across states and Union Territories.
The objective behind the initiative is to reinforce the concept of ‘Unity in Diversity’ along with promoting mutual understanding, cultural exchange, national integration, education and youth involvement, and boosting tourism and economic ties.
The message of Hon’ble Governor of Goa, Shri PS Sreedharan Pillai, was played on the occasion, while a short video highlighting Goa’s rich culture and history was also screened for the audience.
