CEC Kargil Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon Reviews Progress of Sodh Lift Irrigation Project
Kargil, May 13, 2025 – Hon’ble Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon convened a comprehensive review meeting regarding the ongoing Sodh Lift Irrigation Project. The meeting focused on evaluating the current status, identifying bottlenecks, and expediting the project’s timely completion.
Dr. Akhoon assured that in the second phase of the project, solar power backup will be provided to ensure uninterrupted irrigation water supply. He reiterated the administration’s seriousness and concern over the delays and emphasised the urgent need to complete the project at the earliest to alleviate the challenges faced by the local farming community.
“We are fully committed to resolving both technical and non-technical issues promptly. Despite budgetary constraints, priority works must be carried out for public convenience,” said Dr. Akhoon.

The CEC also took detailed feedback from all concerned departments regarding both technical and administrative challenges. Heads of concerned departments committed to resolving all outstanding issues and completing the work at the earliest possible.
The CEC also reviewed the status of lift irrigation projects in other areas including Styankung, Lhalung, and Brakoo Strakburik. Officials reported that those projects are nearing readiness. The status of the Chanigund Lift Irrigation Project was also taken up, and testing is scheduled to be conducted by May 25.
Dr. Akhoon directed the concerned departments to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the canal works raised by the people of Sodh region to ensure efficient water distribution in the future.
Hon’ble Councillor of Sodh Constituency, Manzoor Hussain, also stressed the need for early completion of the project. He highlighted the severe water scarcity being faced by farmers during the ongoing irrigation season. “People are anxious, and water is essential for the fields. Most residents depend on agriculture for their livelihood,” he stated.
The meeting was attended by Hon’ble Councillor Sodh; Manzoor Hussain, Chief Engineer/SE; Mohd Abass, Executive Engineer, Irrigation; Ghulam Hussain, Executive Engineer, Mechanical; Mohd Hassan, other officials, senior citizens and public representatives from the area.
