Transfers of High School Headmasters in Kargil Raise Questions on Transparency
Kargil, Feb. 28: The Chief Education Officer of Kargil has issued orders for the transfer of headmasters of government high schools within the education department, leading to appointments across various schools in the district. However, some teachers have expressed concerns, calling these transfers unfair.
Affected headmasters spoke to our correspondent and explained that a committee comprising senior principals is usually formed to oversee transfers. This committee reviews the three-year service records, previous postings, and date of birth of the concerned teachers and submits a detailed report to the higher authorities of the education department.
According to them, this time, the committee’s report was completely ignored, and specific teachers were reassigned to nearby schools or their preferred postings based on the directives and recommendations of the Hill Council.

Furthermore, several senior headmasters, who are set to retire in a few years, have been posted to remote areas instead of being assigned to nearby schools, raising questions about transparency. Teachers claim that the lack of a fair and effective transfer policy is fostering distrust within the education department.
Reports suggest that transfers of masters and teachers are also expected in the coming days. It remains to be seen how transparent the concerned authorities and the Hill Council will be in these appointments.
