Leh, March 13, 2025: A delegation of Councillors from Changthang led by Executive Councillor, LAHDC Leh, Tashi Namgyal Yakzee called on the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the Lt Governor’s Secretariat to highlight the critical issues affecting the livestock in the region following recent heavy snowfall.
During the meeting, Tashi Namgyal Yakzee apprised the HLG of the dire situation resulting from adverse snowfall which has severely impacted the livestock population in Changthang, leading to significant loss. He urged the HLG to immediately approve the procurement of 12 tonnes of barley as a crucial step in the region’s emergency relief efforts, emphasising that the distribution of available feed and fodder had already been exhausted.
In response, the HLG issued instructions to the Director of Sheep Husbandry to visit the affected areas with Tashi Namgyal Yakzee and conduct a comprehensive assessment of the situation to develop an actionable plan for addressing the crisis. The HLG assured the delegation that prompt and effective measures would be undertaken following the assessment to mitigate the challenges faced by the livestock-dependent communities in Changthang.
