After Heavy Snowfall, Clearance Work Underway to Reopen Zojila

Kargil, March 5: Following heavy snowfall in the region, the Zojila Pass has been closed due to the accumulation of approximately four feet of snow and the heightened risk of avalanches. In a telephonic conversation with an official source from Drass, it was confirmed that efforts are underway to restore connectivity.

The road clearance operation has commenced, with teams working from both sides. Snow clearance machines have been deployed from Gumri towards Drass, while work has also begun on the Zojila tunnel stretch towards Gumri.

Authorities, including police personnel and BRO (Border Roads Organisation) teams, are continuously engaged in road-clearing operations to ensure the swift reopening of the highway. However, due to the ongoing risk of avalanches, travelers are advised to exercise caution and follow official advisories.

Meanwhile, the road closure has caused significant difficulties for the public, especially during the holy month of Ramzan, as many travelers are stranded and facing shortages of accommodation and essential supplies in the market.
