5.2 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Kargil, Tremors Felt in Jammu and Kashmir

Kargil, March 14: A 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck the Kargil district of the Union Territory of Ladakh on Friday night, with tremors also felt in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the epicenter of the earthquake was near Kargil, and it occurred at 2:50 AM local time. The depth of the quake was recorded at 15 kilometers.

Most people were in deep sleep at the time of the earthquake, leaving many unaware of the tremors. However, in some areas, residents felt the quake and rushed out of their homes. Fortunately, there were no reports of any casualties or property damage due to the earthquake.

Sources indicate that tremors were also felt in several areas of Jammu and Kashmir, causing panic in some places. Although the earthquake was of short duration, it still left people concerned.

Experts note that Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir are seismically sensitive regions, where earthquakes occur periodically. This region has experienced several moderate to severe earthquakes in the past. According to experts, the continuous movement of tectonic plates in the region makes earthquakes a common occurrence here.

Authorities are currently assessing the impact of the earthquake, and the public will be informed as soon as any new information becomes available.
