Leh, Feb 11, 2025: A delegation from Lamayuru led by its Councillor, Dr Morup Dorjay called on the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat. Commissioner/Secretary to the HLG, Dr L Franklin and officials from PHE Department were present in the meeting.

Dr Morup Dorjay apprised the HLG of the issues faced by the residents of Lamayuru village in carrying out agricultural practices due to the drying up of water sources. He also suggested lifting water from Sumdho Nullah to meet the water requirements for the agricultural needs of the villagers as it is a perennial source of water. He also requested the HLG’s intervention in sanctioning the gondola project at Lamayuru to promote adventure sports.

Superintending Engineer, PHE, Mohd Abbas informed the HLG about the preliminary survey conducted to check the feasibility of lifting water from Sumdho Nullah along with the issues, such as the length of pipes required and the steep angle at which the pipes need to be installed to lift water from the water source. He further informed that a tender has been floated to rope in consultants to carry out work to prepare the detailed project report (DPR) for the said water lift project in Lamayuru.

Highlighting the need to address the water needs of future generations 30 years down the line, the HLG asked the concerned officials to check the feasibility of water lift work. He also asked Councillor Lamayuru to meet the concerned Executive Engineer of Irrigation and Flood Control Department to expedite the sanctioning of the work order to the shortlisted consultants so that the said work could be started at the earliest. He also informed the delegates that their demand for the gondola project would be looked into and necessary instructions would be passed after further discussion with concerned officials.

A delegation from Phyang comprising ex-servicemen led by Subedar Major (Retd) Nawang Namgyal called on the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) at the LG Secretariat. Commissioner/Secretary to the HLG, Dr L Franklin, IAS; General Manager, BSNL Leh, Hariom Solanki and officials from BSNL and IT Department were present in the meeting.

Sub Maj (Retd) Nawang Namgyal apprised the HLG of telecommunication connectivity issues faced by the residents of Phyang Phulungs and requested the HLG’s intervention in addressing the problem for the ease and convenience of the villagers.

Highlighting the issue of telecommunication connectivity faced by the customers of BSNL, the HLG asked GM BSNL Leh to make all installed towers operational and upgrade existing 2G towers to 4G. He also asked him to rectify the problems faced by the BSNL customers at the earliest.

Kacho Shamim from Kargil called on the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) at the LG Secretariat. Commissioner/Secretary to the HLG, Dr L Franklin, IAS and Secretary, School Education, Bhanu Prabha, IAS, were present in the meeting.

Kacho Shamim requested the HLG’s intervention in upgrading Government Middle School at Biathang, Shilikchey to Government High School. He also apprised the HLG of the commendable performance of students of the school and the efforts made by the members of Village Education Committee (VEC) to upgrade the school for the last six years.

Secretary, School Education, Bhanu Prabha, IAS, informed the HLG of the plan to submit the proposal for upgrading Government Middle School at Biathang to Govt High School with the Government of India.
The HLG asked Secretary Bhanu Prabha to do the needful for the benefit of the students of the school.
