Heavy Snowfall Disrupts Power Supply in Kargil, Restoration Work Underway
Kargil, Feb 28: Kargil has been experiencing continuous snowfall for the last three days, leading to major disruptions in electricity supply across the district. Several areas were left in darkness after last night’s heavy snowfall caused feeder breakdowns. However, the Power Development Department (PDD) has been actively working to restore electricity despite challenging weather conditions.
Executive Engineer PDD, Feroz Ahmad Wani, stated that restoration efforts are progressing steadily, with most feeders now partially or fully operational. As of now, Shargole station and Khangral feeder have been successfully charged, while the Chiktan feeder has been restored up to Chiktan. Additionally, the Barsoo feeder has been energized up to Bartoo, providing relief to affected residents.
The Thasgam and Lankerchy feeders have been fully restored, while Trespone and Sankoo feeders are partially operational. However, the Darket feeder remains non-operational, with restoration efforts ongoing.

The continuous snowfall has created significant challenges for the PDD teams, making access to affected areas difficult. Despite these obstacles, PDD workers are on the ground, braving extreme conditions to bring normalcy back. The department has assured the public that full restoration will be completed as soon as possible.
