Poet Jigmat Norboo demands revival of Urdu desk at Culture Academy, Leh
Leh, 27 January, 2025: Several delegations called on The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, Brigadier (Dr) B.D. Mishra (Retd), at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat today. Advisor to the HLG Dr. Pawan Kotwal, IAS; Secretary Education Ms Bhanu Prabha, IAS; Deputy Secretary Culture Academy Leh Mr. Tsewang Paljor and Under Secretary Sumera Shafi, JKAS were present during the meetings.
In one of the meetings, Jigmat Norboo (Khayal Ladakhi), an Urdu poet from Leh, called on the HLG and he informed the HLG about the defunct status of the special Urdu desk at the Culture Academy, Leh, which was established in 2020 by the former Secretary of Tourism and Culture Mr. Rigzin Samphel, IAS, for the promotion of the Urdu language. He requested the revival of this desk and expressed his willingness to work voluntarily until the office becomes fully regularized. The HLG assured Mr. Norboo that the matter would be examined, and necessary actions would be taken.
In a separate meeting, Iftiqar Alam, a Master at the Education Department, sought the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor’s intervention regarding his pending promotion, which has been stalled due to qualifications-related issues. The HLG clarified that recruitment rules cannot be altered for individual candidates. He emphasized that the recruitment rules clearly state that for promotion, candidates must hold a master’s degree in the subject they teach.
