CEC Kargil Meets Home Minister Amit Shah

New Delhi, January 2: The Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Kargil, Dr. Jaffer Akhoon met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to address developmental and linguistic demands for the Union Territory of Ladakh.

Dr. Akhoon strongly demanded for the inclusion of Purgi/ Balti as the first official languages of Ladakh, highlighting that over 62% of the population uses these languages. He emphasized the importance of preserving the linguistic heritage of the region. Additionally, he called for the recognition of Sheena/Dardi as an additional official language to represent the diverse linguistic culture of Kargil Ladakh.
The CEC also put forth a demand for the creation of two new districts in Ladakh — one for the Sankoo subdivision and another for Shakar Chiktan -Shargole Sub Division. He stated that the move would enhance administrative efficiency and bring governance closer to the people in these areas.
He also put-forth the need to start civil aircraft services in Kargil Ladakh, particularly during the harsh winter months. Dr. Akhoon underscored that improved air connectivity would not only boost tourism but also ensure essential transportation for residents during the region’s challenging winter season.
He also discussed various issues of Aakashwani Kargil.
Home Minister Amit Shah assured Dr. Jaffer to thoroughly examine these demands and explore all possible solutions for their implementation.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Dr. Akhoon also met with the Minister of State for Civil Aviation, and raised various demands who expressed a positive response to the demand for enhanced air connectivity in Ladakh and assured full cooperation in addressing the matter.
