“Lokhor-gi-rGaston: A Grand Celebration of Ladakhi Culture and Traditions in Leh”

Leh, December 22: A vibrant celebration of Ladakh’s rich cultural heritage unfolded today at the Main Market in Leh with the grand event Lokhor-gi-rGaston, organized to mark the auspicious occasion of Ladakhi Losar. The event was graced by the Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson as the chief guest.

Organized by the Ladakh Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages, in collaboration with the LAHDC, the Tourism Department, and local stakeholders, the event combined the celebrations of Losar (Ladakhi New Year), Christmas, and the New Year, aiming to engage the local community in cultural practices while safeguarding the region’s rich customs.

The ceremony featured a captivating cultural presentation by the villagers of Leh-Phudo, followed by lively performances from local artists showcasing traditional Ladakhi music, dance, and other cultural expressions. The festive atmosphere resonated throughout the market, with residents and visitors coming together to celebrate the diversity and unity of Ladakh’s people.

In his address, CEC Tashi Gyalson extended heartfelt congratulations to the people of Ladakh on the occasion of Losar and expressed his gratitude to the event organizers. He stressed the importance of cultural gatherings like Lokhor-gi-rGaston in ensuring that traditions remain alive for future generations. “Through such events, we not only celebrate our rich heritage but also inspire younger generations to take pride in their roots,” he said.

The CEC also acknowledged the efforts of the Ladakh Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages, the Deputy Secretary for Culture, Tsewang Paljor, and all other stakeholders for their unwavering support in organizing the event.

Lokhor-gi-rGaston was recognized as a key initiative to unite the diverse elements of Ladakh’s cultural and religious calendar, fostering a sense of community and cultural pride among the people.

The Vice President of LBA, President of the Christian Association, and Deputy Secretary for Culture also spoke on the occasion, expressing their appreciation for the support extended by LAHDC Leh in organizing the week-long celebrations of Traditional Losar and Christmas.

The event was attended by Nominated Councillors; Deputy Secretary for Culture; the Vice President of LBA, the President of the Christian Association, the President of the LBA Women’s Wing, the President of the LBA Youth Wing, the President of the Ladakh Travel Trade Alliance (LTTA), the President of ALGHA; the President of LMGA, executive members of ALTOA and other officials.
