Former PM Manmohan Singh Passes Away at 92
Former prime minister Manmohan Singh has passed away at the age of 92. He was admitted to AIIMS Delhi on Thursday evening after his health deteriorated. He was brought to the emergency department of the hospital.
Dr Singh, who served as the 14th Prime Minister of India, is acknowledged as the architect of economic reforms in the country.Singh, sworn in as Prime Minister on May 22, 2004, served two consecutive terms until May 26, 2014. Leading the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government for a total of 3,656 days, he became the third longest-serving Prime Minister in India’s history, following Jawaharlal Nehru (6,130 days) and Indira Gandhi (5,829 days).
Born on September 26, 1932, in Gah village, West Punjab (now in Pakistan), Singh did his Master’s in Economics from Panjab University, Chandigarh, and later obtained a doctorate from the University of Oxford
