DSWO, Kargil organizes orientation-cum-training program for master volunteers under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan

Kargil, October 18, 2024: In line with the Government of India’s commitment to creating a drug-free society, District Social and Tribal Welfare Department, Kargil, today organized an orientation-cum-training program for master volunteers as part of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) at Auditorium Hall, Kargil.

The program aimed to equip master volunteers with the necessary knowledge and skills to combat substance abuse and promote drug demand reduction in the district.

Resource persons from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Risha Nusrat (Senior Program Officer), Kritika (State Coordinator, PMU), and Pragjyotika (State Coordinator, PMU), delivered comprehensive PowerPoint presentations highlighting the prevalence of drug use in India.

The presentations covered extent and patterns of substance abuse (alcohol, opioids, cannabis) consumption trends, causes, and consequences, National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction Policy, initiatives (skill development, capacity-building, community involvement, quality standards, survey studies, treatment facilities), roles and mechanisms of CPLI and ODIC, early drug prevention among adolescents, implementation strategies and cycle of addiction.

The interactive training session witnessed vibrant discussions and deliberations among students, master volunteers, and resource persons on challenges related to de-addiction in the district. Valuable insights and remedies were provided to address these issues.

The resource persons appealed to the general public, especially those struggling with drug abuse, to contact the toll-free number 14446 for confidential counselling.

Another session was conducted at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Kargil.

The orientation-cum-training session was attended by Assistant Commissioner Revenue/District Social & Tribal Welfare Office, Kargil Abdul Majid Tantary; Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee, Kargil; Principals from various schools; Master volunteers; staff of Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School, Kargil; students from Suru Valley Public School and Boys Higher Secondary School and Officials from Social Welfare Department, Kargil.

The District Social and Tribal Welfare Department, Kargil, reaffirms its commitment to implementing the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan and ensuring a drug-free society.
