Excise Team Recovers Illicit Liquor in Separate Raids in Leh and Kargil

VoL Desk, Sep. 23: In a series of search operations conducted in Khaltsi, Leh, and Garkon, Kargil, the Excise Team has recovered a large quantity of illicit liquor, booking the offenders under Section 48(a) of the J&K Excise Act, 1958.

Based on specific intelligence, on the night of September 21, 2024, the Excise Team raided a general store and a residential house located in Khaltsi Market, recovering 245 cans of illicit liquor. Both premises were owned by the same individual, a resident of Khaltsi, Leh, Ladakh.

The operation was led by Zulfikar Ali, Excise Inspector of the Leh-Kargil Excise Range, and assisted by Sub-Inspectors Mohd Taqi and Stanzin Gaychet, along with Excise Guards Mohd Mussa and Stanzin Skaldan.

The search was conducted in the presence of the Nambardar and a local member of Khaltsi. A total of 245 cans of beer were seized from the individual, who has been charged under Section 48(a) of the J&K Excise Act, 1958. A formal complaint has been filed at the Excise Office, Leh-Kargil.

In a parallel operation, acting on another tip-off, the team conducted a search of a residential house in Garkon village, Kargil district. The search, conducted in the presence of the Nambardar and a village committee member, led to the recovery of 491 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and 16 cans of beer.

The house belonged to a local woman, who has also been charged under Section 48(a) of the J&K Excise Act, 1958. A complaint against her has been lodged at the Excise Office, Leh-Kargil.

Further investigations in both cases are ongoing under the provisions of the J&K Excise Act, 1958.
