Awareness Seminar on GST and Taxation Held at DIHAR, Leh
Leh, Sept 19, 2024: A seminar focused on Goods and Services Tax (GST) and other taxation issues was held at the Defense Institute of High Altitude Research (DIHAR) Auditorium.
The event was graced by Hon’ble Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Leh, Adv.Tashi Gyalson; Hon’ble Deputy Chairman Tsering Angchuk; Hon’ble Councillor for Minority Ghulam Mehdi; Hon’ble Councillors of various constituencies; DC/CEO, LAHDC, Leh Santosh Sukhadeve; Director of NIELIT,Phuntsog Toldan; Preeti Singh and Ankit Prasad, both Chartered Accountants and others.
The seminar commenced with a welcome speech by Phuntsog Toldan, Director of NIELIT, who emphasized the importance of bridging local industry with skilled manpower. He expressed hope for future programs to enhance knowledge in advanced GST and accounting.

DC Santosh Sukhadeve delivered opening remarks, highlighting the significance of tax education in promoting economic growth. He noted the importance of understanding both direct and indirect taxes and their implications for local businesses.
In his keynote address, CEC Tashi Gyalson outlined the seminar’s objectives, emphasizing the crucial need for skilled manpower in Ladakh’s accounting sector. He stated, “With the implementation of GST, it’s essential that our local professionals are equipped with the knowledge to manage tax filings effectively. This is not just about compliance; it’s about empowering our community to maximize the benefits of these regulations.”
H’CEC also addressed the need for ongoing training programs, noting that the seminar is just the beginning of a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing the financial capabilities of the youth in Ladakh. “The participation of over 30 students in this crash course is a testament to their eagerness to learn. It’s imperative that we continue to invest in our human resources, ensuring that they are well prepared to handle the complexities of accounting and taxation in a rapidly evolving economic landscape.”
A certificate distribution ceremony recognized candidates who successfully completed a 10 day Accounting Fresher Course, furthering their skills in financial management.
Chartered Accountants, Mrs. Preeti Singh and Ankit Prasad, led an informative session on GST, followed by a Q&A segment where participants engaged in discussions about tax awareness and accounting practices.They highlighted the lack of awareness about tax benefits and the importance of accurate filings for local businesses.
The seminar concluded on a positive note, as CEC Gyalson announced plans for future training sessions, ensuring that more residents have access to essential accounting skills. The event was well received, with a strong turnout of over 30 participants eager to learn and enhance their capabilities.
This initiative reflects LAHDC’s commitment to empowering the youth of Ladakh through education and skill development, fostering a more informed and self-sufficient community.
