Students Struggle as AICTE Delays Scholarship Payments, Leaving DU Admissions in Limbo
VoL Desk, August 21: Many students admitted in 2023 are facing significant hardships as the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has yet to release their maintenance and academic fees. According to a statement from students to this newspaper, those who were allotted seats at Delhi University this year are also encountering problems, with no specific colleges assigned to them yet.
Students who enrolled in 2023 are now in their third semester but still haven’t received the maintenance and academic fees for their first semester. Despite numerous visits to the AICTE office, their concerns remain unresolved. Each time, they were assured that the scholarship would be released within 10 days or sooner, but after 11 months, many have not even received the first installment. “It’s difficult to make ends meet as we are entirely dependent on this scholarship,” the students lamented.
Adding to the issues, students who secured admission this year are now in a state of confusion. Many were allocated seats at Delhi University through the Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) choice filling, but the specific colleges have not been disclosed, leaving their admissions on hold. Students were given the option to choose between the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) for DU or PMSSS, leading to confusion over which to pursue. With the CSAS deadline now passed, students are left with PMSSS as their only option, which remains in process, highlighting what they describe as the AICTE’s negligence.
