Public Representatives of Sankoo Subdivision Demand District Status
VoL Desk, August 27: The public representatives of Sankoo Subdivision, comprising members from various political parties and religious factions, have urged the government to grant district status to the region. This demand was made during a press conference held at the Tourist Facilitation Centre in Kargil, following Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s announcement that Ladakh would be getting five new districts.
Addressing the media, former MLC and Councillor Agha Syed Ahmad Razvi stated that Sankoo Subdivision is the most deserving region for district status due to its population, its distance from the current district headquarters, and the inclusion of several remote regions within it.
Congress Councillor from Taisuru, Abdul Hadi, emphasized that Sankoo is the oldest subdivision in Kargil district and is situated 45 kilometers away from the district headquarters. He highlighted that other areas, such as Parkachik, Stakpa Umba, Barsoo, and TSG Block, are located in far-flung regions for which Sankoo serves as a central hub.
