Water Crisis in Sukutiyal Village of Drass Subdivision: Urgent Appeal for Assistance

VoL Desk, July 11: Sukutiyal village in the Drass Subdivision, under the Bhimbat Councillor Constituency, is experiencing a severe shortage of drinking and irrigation water, according to a correspondence from the villagers to the Voice of Ladakh.

Residents have been forced to collect water from a spring located between 500 meters to 1 kilometer away from their homes. Additionally, some volunteers use their vehicles to transport water in 500-liter Sintex tanks to distribute among the neighbors.

With a population of approximately 200 people, Sukutiyal has been struggling with water scarcity for the past three to four years. In 2022, the villagers were unable to cultivate their agricultural fields due to the lack of water.

The village comprises three mohallas: Gongma, Yokma, and Thali. Each mohalla has two to three water pipes, but the water supply remains inadequate. Since the onset of summer this year, the water pipes have been providing very limited water.

The villagers are urging the administration to address this critical issue as a priority. They also appeal to their respected Councillor, Mr. Abdul Wahid, for swift action to resolve the water crisis.
