Pro-Palestinian Slogans Mark Aashura Observance in Kargil

VoL Desk, July 17: In Kargil today, children carried dummy coffins representing those killed in Gaza, while mourners held a 20-meter-long Palestinian flag and chanted pro-Palestinian slogans. This marked the observance of Aashura, the day commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (a.s.).

Clerics emphasized that without confronting contemporary tyrants and arrogant powers, observing the martyrdom and lamenting Yazid ibn Mawiya holds no significance. They justified the chanting of slogans in solidarity with Gaza and Palestine during the Shia procession to commemorate the 72 martyrs of Karbala.

Under the banner of the Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust, processions from suburban villages of Kargil converged at the main bazaar, starting from the Bus Stand and culminating at Hussaini Park. Mourners chanted nohas (elegies) paying rich tribute to the third Shia Imam, the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (SAW), and his companions martyred in Karbala.

The processions also chanted slogans such as: “Down with America,” “Down with Israel,” “We stand with Gaza,” “We stand with Palestine,” “Allah is Great,” and “Khamenei is the leader.”

The Ladakh Police made necessary arrangements for security and law and order, in addition to distributing sabeels (alms) in memory of Imam Hussain. The SSP Kargil was also seen distributing sabeels.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Committee of Kargil ensured cleanliness and hygiene along the procession route. The Health Department and volunteer health organizations provided free medical aid to those in need during the procession.

Ashura processions were also held in Sankoo, Suru, TSG Block, and Drass, where hundreds of mourners paid rich tribute to Imam Hussain.
