Mohmad Haneefa independent candidate wins with 65,259 votes from 1-Ladakh Parliamentary Constituency
Leh, June 04: As the results of General Elections to Lok Sabha, 2024 were announced today, Mohmad Haneefa, Independent candidate from Kargil district was declared the winning candidate from 1-Ladakh Parliamentary Constituency of Union Territory of Ladakh with a total of 65,259 votes by Returning Officer, 1-Ladakh Parliamentary Constituency, Santosh Sukhadeve.
Haneefa came out victorious with a staggering margin of 27,862 votes defeating Indian National Congress candidate Tsering Namgyal at second position with 37,397 votes. BJP candidate, Tashi Gyalson secured 31,956 votes at the third place and 912 votes went to NOTA (None of the Above).
After being declared the winner of the 1-Ladakh Parliamentary Constituency, Mohmad Haneefa thanked the people of Leh and Kargil districts for making him victorious. He stated that the result of the 1-Ladakh Parliamentary Constituency was much better than he had anticipated.

The Election Commission of India conducted the 2024 General Election to Lok Sabha for 543 seats in seven phases in which 1-Ladakh Parliamentary Constituency voted on May 20th in the 5th phase. A total of 577 polling stations voted in Ladakh which included 298 polling stations in Leh district and 279 polling stations in Kargil district.
The counting in Leh district was conducted at Sindhu Sanskriti Kendra (SSK) under the supervision of Returning Officer, 1-Ladakh Parliamentary Constituency, Santosh Sukhadeve and Counting Observer, ECI, Shilpa Gupta
The ECI also provided the facility of postal ballot to Absentee Voter Senior Citizen (AVSC), Absentee Voter Person with Disabilities (AVPD) which included PWDs with benchmark disability of 40% and more and Absentee Voter Essential Services (AVES).
Ladakh, the largest constituency in the country in terms of area, witnessed a 71.82% voter turnout which included 67.14% in Leh district and 76.15% turnout in Kargil district.
The polling stations in Leh district included 10 model polling stations, 75 pink polling stations and 1 PWD managed polling station.
