VoL Desk, May 15: In order to prevent spread of tobacco and narcotics usage among school children, the District Magistrate Kargil has prohibited storage, sale, display and distribution of ‘Cool Lip’ with immediate effect in the district.

The District Magistrate in an order on Wednesday has ordered the Sr. Superintendent of Police, Kargil and Chief Education Officer, Kargil to ensure implementation of the order that prohibits the sale of Cool Lip in the district.

Pertinently various states including the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir vide SRO 68 dated 06.03.2013, had issued an order prohibiting the storage, sale, transportation, display or distribution of food products containing tobacco and/ or nicotine as ingredients.

The current decision has been taken in view of increase use of ‘Cool Lip’ by school going children and its potential health implication, especially oral health effects. It is thus expedient to prohibit/ban the sale of ‘Cool Lip’ containing tobacco or nicotine in the Kargil District.
