VoL Desk, May 22: All type of businesses in Kargil are likely to observe a half day long shutdown on Thursday to commemorate the “martyrdom” of Iran’s President Ayatollah Ibrahim Raeisi and colleagues in the helicopter crash on Sunday, announced the Merchant Association of Kargil in a press release today.

The association has expressed grief over the loss of the life of prominent dignitaries in Iran. In this regard the association has appealed all the businesses in the district to observe a half day shutdown.

In this regard the Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust (IKMT) has announced a mourning procession in the Kargil city that will be joined by people from different villages including children of various schools and women under the banner of Zainabiya Women Welfare Society.

In view of the mourning processions being taken out in town Kargil by IKMT on Thursday the Traffic Police, Ladakh has also announced a traffic plan indicating traffic diversions and restrictions, from 09:30 AM to 12:30 PM to ensure hassle free movement of the processions.

All incoming traffic towards Srinagar/ Drass from Leh side shall be diverted from TV station crossing towards Byepass via Meghawatt Road. Rest of the traffic movement towards Bazar either Pashkum side or Baroo side shall be strictly restricted from Iqbal Bridge and no vehicles be allowed from this point except Emergency vehicles (only upper Chankchik Road will be used by Emergency vehicle).

Traffic Police Kargil has advised to park vehicles at space available road side behind Iqbal bridge towards DPL Crossing and Khree Sultan Cho Sports Stadium (Biamathung play field) from Baroo side during the processions.

All incoming traffic towards Kargil town from Drass side shall be strictly restricted from Byepass Bridge and vehicles coming from Pishu side will not take “U” turn from Adulgond traffic point. They also use Byepass Bridge during the procession.

Vehicles coming from Srinagar/ Drass towards Leh/ Kargil/ Zanskar shall be diverted via Byepass Bridge and use Byepass road.

No vehicle shall be allowed to park along the roadside at and around Town/ Circular road, if found shall be towed and seized.

Travelers intending to go towards Srinagar/Drass and towards Leh/Zanskar on 23-05-2024 are advised to use the Byepass route only instead of the Kargil Bazar/ Circular route.

The Traffic Police has requested the general public to adhere to these advisory for hassle free movement of mourning processions and smooth traffic regulation thereof.
