Taxi drivers protest at Sonamarg due the closer of NH01
VoL Desk, April 17: Due the closer of the Srinagar – Leh National Highway (NH01) for the consecutive fourth day, Taxi drivers protest against the DC Ganderbal and Administration.
During the protest they requested the Administration for the early opening of the road.
The protest comes in light of closure of the highway since the last Sunday due to the rainfall and snowfall in the region which resulted in the closer of Zojila pass. The recent snowfall caused continues avalanches and landslides at some places at the pass.

The taxi drivers financial assistance for the family members fulfill their basic needs such as food / medical childrens education, it is purely depends on their vehicle run on the roads by the passengers or tourists.
However, what ever works for roads maintenance it should be completed as early as possible.
Because the taxis are light vehicles not a heavy vehicles.
But as per stone head bikes report says on 01 April 2024 the road has already been opened for light vehicles.

The current Zojila Pass status today is OPEN. Passenger vehicles and tourists can now cross Zojila Pass and travel between Srinagar and Kargil. Traffic, however, is only allowed from one side on alternate days between 9:30 am to 1:00 PM.
