Palga Rinpoche Disqualified, Leaving Three Contenders for LBA Presidency
VoL Desk, April 20: Amidst the scrutiny of nomination papers for the Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) presidency, Palga Rinpoche was disqualified, narrowing the pool of candidates to three. Additionally, Rinchan Namgyal opted to withdraw his nomination in support of Tsering Dorjay Lakruk.
Addressing the media, Tsering Dorjey Lakruk, a senior member of the Leh Apex Body (LAB), cited discrepancies in Rinpoche’s records as grounds for disqualification. Namgyal’s withdrawal, according to Lakruk, aims to fortify the Apex Body and advocate for Ladakh’s interests. Consequently, only three candidates remain in contention for the LBA presidency.
Earlier, Lakruk had objected to Palga Rinpoche’s nomination, citing the LBA constitution’s provision barring monks from contesting elections. He also pointed out Rinpoche’s Tibetan nationality as a disqualifying factor.
