Kargil Mar. 01: Major General SS Bakshi, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Leh Sub Area, met with Lieutenant Governor, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra to address the wage disparity issue affecting casual labourers in Ladakh.

During the discussion, Major General Bakshi highlighted the significant gap in pay between laborers employed by the Army and those working under the Border Roads Organization.

In the meeting with the Lieutenant Governor, Major General Bakshi urged for urgent intervention to take up the matter to the attention of the Defense Minister of India. He emphasized the necessity of aligning the rates for unskilled laborers with central norms to ensure fair compensation.

Acknowledging the importance of the issue, the Lieutenant Governor underscored the need for prompt action, before Model Code of Conduct in view of the upcoming general Lok Sabha elections.
